Chava Vietze

Materials: Kombucha, mycelium, bioplastic
Ingredients: Kombucha: apple cider vinegar and white vinegar, sugar, teas (black, earl grey, hibiscus, and moringa), scoby. Mycelium: cork, coffee grounds, paper, egg shells. Bioplastic: gelatin, glycerin, citric acid, soy wax, cornstarch, agar, food coloring
Processes: Boiling, inoculation, casting, sanitization etc.

Tools: silicone molds, pot, whisk, measuring cups, teaspoons, etc.
Timeline: 1 day to 3 weeks depending on process and experiment

Of my experiments, bioplastic and biofoam were the most flexible, resilient, and adaptable. It was less influenced by outside elements such as room temperature, humidity, contamination, and more. Bioplastic has other challenges such as shrinkage, changes in texture and color over time, and strength however seems to be a promising material that is deserving of further exploration.
